Grand Central Academy Student Work

The following is a selection of some of the amazing student work being produced at the Grand Central Academy (instagram) in New York. It is my understanding that many of these drawings are developed over the course of at least a few days. The drawings are typically done with graphite with possible white chalk for highlights. The line that delineates the outer container of the figure gives way to keenly observed value that lends the figure a photographic realism. None of this would be possible without a thorough understanding of  the basic underlying shapes of the figure and their overall relationship to one another. There are no symbols or “sketchy outlines” here – only drawing what was carefully observed from life with exactitude and patience.
